Texas Lt. Gov.-elect Vikki Goodwin, an Austin-area state representative, said she plans to focus on public education, reconsider state takeovers such as the Houston Independent School District intervention, and review regulations affecting hemp products. She also identified data center expansion as an issue requiring greater oversight.

Goodwin will become the first woman to serve as Texas lieutenant governor and preside over the state Senate, where Republicans retain the majority. Outgoing Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attributed his defeat in part to voter concerns including affordability, gas prices and data centers, and said he accepted the election result. Goodwin said she is optimistic about finding bipartisan compromises after voters demanded change.
