Ferguson officials approved plans to redevelop the former Emerson site into Project Butterfly, a 217-acre high-tech data and innovation hub. Developers estimate the project could generate up to $22 billion in investment, more than 350 permanent jobs, $40 million for environmental cleanup and infrastructure, and increased tax revenue for local schools.

Many nearby homeowners, including longtime resident Laurie Solomon, remain worried about potential noise, air-quality and health impacts, as well as declining property values. Some residents are considering selling their homes, while others are organizing a recall effort and collecting signatures for a referendum that could force a public vote on whether to reverse the city's approval. Developer Jim Honder had not responded about the project's next steps or construction timeline at the time of the report.
