Developer scales back plans for controversial east Indianapolis DC Blox data center
DC Blox has scaled back plans for a controversial data center in east Indianapolis, specifically in the Irvington neighborhood, ahead of a key vote by the Metropolitan Development Commission. The revised proposal includes two buildings instead of three, eliminates 25 backup generators, and increases green space, but residents still express strong opposition to the project.
DC Blox has announced scaled-back plans for a proposed data center in the Irvington neighborhood on Indianapolis's east side, ahead of a crucial vote by the Metropolitan Development Commission. The developer states these changes are part of a "community protection pledge" to the Warren Township community.
The revised design for the site, located south of Irvington Elementary, now features two buildings instead of the original three. This modification is expected to eliminate 25 backup generators and significantly increase the dedicated green space on the campus, aiming to reduce the project's overall footprint.
Despite these design improvements, local residents continue to voice strong opposition to the data center. Neighbors emphasize that these changes are insufficient, stating, "It's not enough. They aren't listening to what we're saying because the majority of people don't want them here." The Metropolitan Development Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing for the data center on July 15th.
