The Duos Edge AI-ready data center recently opened in Lubbock, Texas, amidst ongoing national discussions about data center impacts. Located at 1634 18th St. and leased from Lubbock ISD, the $1.2 million facility is designed to be completely unmanned, according to Bill Radford, Vice President of Technology for Duos Edge Technology. Radford emphasized its sustainable design, stating it uses no water and consumes as much electricity as a local McDonald's, contrasting with larger data centers that strain power grids.

The facility has a maximum capacity of 200 kilowatts. Duos Edge actively partners with the local education system, offering free space or profit-sharing. Region 16 Education Service Center, a current user, highlighted the data center's high-level security, including AI facial recognition and a Novak fire suppression system, along with 24-hour customer access requiring a unique entrance pin. David Calabrese, Region 16 ESC's coordinator of client strategy and solutions, noted that the facility addresses common media concerns about excessive power and water use while providing high security and availability.
