The Hackettstown Town Council approved an ordinance on Oct. 8 that classifies data centers as a prohibited use under the town’s Land Development Ordinance. The ban applies across all zoning districts and prevents future data center development in Hackettstown, Warren County, New Jersey.

Town officials said the action was driven by concerns about electricity demand, water consumption, noise, environmental resources, local infrastructure and long-term land-use planning.
