Democratic Candidate Cindy Holscher Discusses Data Centers and their Implications on Kansans
Democratic Kansas gubernatorial candidate Cindy Holscher supports a moratorium on new data center development while the state evaluates potential impacts. She cites concerns about water consumption, higher utility costs and whether promised local jobs will materialize.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cindy Holscher said Kansas should impose a moratorium on data center expansion so residents and policymakers can better assess the industry’s effects. In an interview with KOAM political reporter Blake Gully, Holscher said people across the state are increasingly concerned about data centers’ demands on water and electricity.
Holscher also questioned the local economic benefits often promised by developers, arguing that construction crews may be brought in from outside the state and that permanent jobs may not meet expectations. KOAM said a subsequent interview with Republican gubernatorial candidate Tai Masterson would present his position on Kansas data center development.
