The Wilson City Council, during its April meeting, unanimously approved two rezoning requests along Airport Boulevard. Neider Development secured approval to rezone properties at 3351 and 3357 Airport Blvd. for a 68-unit income-based housing development, while 3335 Airport Blvd. was rezoned to allow for mixed commercial and residential use.
Another significant item was the withdrawal of a rezoning request by Desco Investment Co. for a major subdivision at London Church Road and Van Slyke Road, following opposition from residents. The Council did, however, approve the annexation of 23.45 acres for property owner David Evans and 113.63 acres for Desco's housing project on Heritage Drive West.
Crucially for the technology sector, the Council approved a resolution to schedule a public hearing for May 21. This hearing will address a proposed moratorium ordinance specifically targeting data centers, data processing facilities, cryptocurrency mining operations, battery energy storage systems, and related uses. This indicates the city is considering a pause on such developments.
