Building permit issued for new Cedar Rapids data center
A building permit has been approved for a new 98,695-square-foot data center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The facility, owned by CLOP LLC and developed by Oppidan Connect, will draw up to 10 megawatts of power. This project is significantly smaller than other hyperscale data centers under construction in the area by QTS and Google.
The City of Cedar Rapids has approved a building permit for a new 98,695-square-foot data center facility, according to online records. The permit for the project, located at 1515 33rd Ave. SW, was approved on June 22 and has a listed valuation of just over $101 million.
The site is owned by CLOP LLC, a Cedar Rapids-based entity, and is being developed by Oppidan Connect. The facility is expected to consume up to 10 megawatts of power.
This new development is considerably smaller in scope compared to other major data center projects ongoing in Cedar Rapids, including the 612-acre QTS complex and the 414-acre Google project, both situated within the Big Cedar Industrial Center. The metro area has been a hub for various data centers for over a decade, with other facilities like Enseva's in Hiawatha and ark data centers (formerly Involta) in Marion also noted in the region.
