Meta launches skilled trades academy to support data center boom
Meta has launched America's Workforce Academy, a $115 million initiative providing free training for skilled trade workers to support the booming data center industry. The program, which covers all expenses and guarantees job offers, aims to address workforce shortages, especially relevant to Meta's expanding Henrico County data center campus near Richmond, Virginia.
Meta has introduced America's Workforce Academy, a new $115 million training program designed to meet the increasing demand for skilled trade workers in the data center sector. The four-week academy offers free education, covering tuition, travel, lodging, and living expenses for participants pursuing careers in electrical work, welding, fiber installation, and mechanical systems. Graduates are guaranteed a job offer upon completion and earn industry-recognized credentials through the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
The initiative directly responds to the growing need for a specialized labor force to construct and maintain data centers, including Meta's significant campus in Henrico County, Virginia, within the White Oak Technology Park. This facility, representing over $1 billion in investment since it was first announced in 2017, exemplifies the nationwide data center expansion driving the demand for construction workers, electricians, and technicians. Meta states the academy will help build the necessary labor force for future infrastructure and AI-related projects.
