Trump highlights data center construction, economic benefits at White House event

During a White House event, former President Donald Trump claimed credit for a surge in data center construction in the U.S. and criticized the Biden administration. He specifically highlighted his administration's "Ratepayer Protection Pledge," stating it has helped keep electricity rates in check for a large portion of the American power distribution.

Trump provided several examples of the economic benefits attributed to data center development. He noted that in Georgia, revenue from Google's data center construction allowed Georgia Power to freeze base rates for households until 2029 and enabled some communities to eliminate property taxes. He congratulated a Georgia governor present at the event for these accomplishments.

He also mentioned American Electric Power's projection of $16 billion in cost offsets for consumers due to data center contracts. In Iowa, Trump stated that Alliant Energy's data center deals were allowing electric rates to be frozen for at least five years. Furthermore, in Louisiana's Richland Parish, he claimed public school teachers were receiving substantial bonuses, and local residents were saving billions on electricity bills, thanks to a $27 billion investment likely related to such developments.

Trump expressed frustration at receiving "no credit" for these achievements, suggesting that future administrations would benefit from the economic foundation he laid. He implied that such large-scale projects, particularly data centers, represent an unparalleled economic boon for communities.
