Meta has launched a new $115 million workforce training program, America's Workforce Academy, to address the increasing demand for skilled tradespeople in the burgeoning data center and AI infrastructure sectors. Houston, Texas, is one of four pilot cities for the initiative, alongside Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Columbus, Ohio. The program is designed to provide free training in various skilled trades, such as electricians, mechanics, and fiber technicians, and guarantees employment for graduates who earn a National Center for Construction Education and Research credential.

Rachel Peterson, Meta's vice president of data centers, emphasized the critical need for a skilled workforce to build and maintain AI infrastructure. The program aims to create accessible career pathways, particularly for communities historically excluded from such opportunities, as highlighted by Marc H. Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League, a partner in the initiative. Other collaborating organizations include the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Associated Builders and Contractors.

The $115 million investment marks what Meta describes as the largest private-sector commitment to skilled trades with a job guarantee in American history. This initiative builds on Meta's earlier LevelUp program for fiber infrastructure training. While the number of jobs to be created in Houston is not yet specified, the scale of the investment suggests a goal to train thousands of individuals across the pilot states.
