Hyperscale Data, an AI technology company, is moving to expand its data center campus in Dowagiac, Michigan, by acquiring an additional 48.5 acres of land. The company already operates a data center on a 35-acre site in Dowagiac and, with the new purchase, would more than double its footprint to 83 acres.
CEO Will Horne confirmed the agreement to purchase the land, stating the transaction is expected to finalize within the next 60 days. This expansion, however, has already generated online pushback from residents, who are commenting on the City of Dowagiac's Facebook post with concerns about the data center's growth.
Dowagiac City Manager Kevin Anderson stated that city officials learned about the potential real estate transaction through Hyperscale Data's press release, similar to the public. Anderson noted that the company has not yet released any floor plans or operational details to the city, and the local government is currently waiting for Hyperscale Data to reach out and submit their plans for review.
