Minja Yan wins Clark County Commission District F primary

Minja Yan, a 31-year-old real estate agent, secured an unexpected victory in the Democratic primary for the Clark County Commission District F seat. Despite a lack of institutional support and significant funding, Yan defeated well-funded opponents Minddie Lloyd and Lenna Hovanessian. Her campaign is centered on challenging the status quo, promising to introduce light rail to Las Vegas, rezone the city for more housing, reduce urban sprawl, and invest in healthcare and education.
Yan, a member of the Sierra Club, has notably attended at least three county and city board meetings to protest data center development, indicating a strong stance against such projects. Her policy-driven platform also includes streamlining bureaucratic processes and developing a comprehensive regional plan for Southern Nevada, addressing concerns that young people are leaving the state due to a lack of long-term vision.
County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, who initially supported Lloyd but has now endorsed Yan, commented on the "shock" of her win and the public's desire for new approaches. Yan will now face Assm. Heidi Kasama (R-Las Vegas) and former state Sen. Becky Harris (nonpartisan) in the general election. While some question her ability to win without major institutional backing, her youth and policy focus resonated with primary voters.
