Amazon plans to expand Montgomery County data center sites
Amazon proposed expanding its data center presence in Montgomery County with a potential campus of up to 15 buildings on 890 acres south of Interstate 70 near Danville. Residents raised concerns about construction, housing, traffic and limited community consultation, while Amazon said no construction date has been set.
Amazon representative Brian Bolton presented the potential expansion to the Montgomery County Commission, saying the company is considering as many as 15 additional data center buildings south of Interstate 70, closer to Danville. Amazon is reportedly assembling about 890 acres and purchasing private land, but the transactions have not closed. The company is already developing a separate data center project near New Florence.
The proposal was new to many residents and county officials. Some residents said the location aligns with earlier planning goals for growth along the interstate, while others, including Brenda Buechele, called for studies of construction, housing and broader community impacts. Residents also criticized what they described as limited communication about both the existing and potential facilities. Bolton said Amazon has not established a construction date, estimating work could begin sometime in the future.
