Laredo mayor to host data center regulation discussion with state, federal officials

Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño is scheduled to host a critical discussion on data center regulations and infrastructure requirements, joined by Congressman Henry Cuéllar and State Representative Richard Peña Raymond. The meeting, set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 31, at the Laredo Fire Department Administration Building, comes as State Rep. Raymond has formally requested a Texas Legislative Special Session to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for data centers.
Congressman Cuéllar will offer a federal perspective on the rapid expansion of data centers, emphasizing the necessity of coordinated policies concerning water resources, energy infrastructure, economic growth, and regional planning. Mayor Treviño, who noted that the City of Laredo has not yet received any data center applications, will guide the discussion toward responsible planning and the protection of essential resources, particularly water.
The dialogue aims to craft policies that safeguard critical resources while ensuring that communities like Laredo integrate appropriate land planning for sustainable economic development. Additionally, Mayor Treviño is slated to announce a series of community town halls, providing residents an opportunity to learn about proposed data center regulations, ask questions, and offer feedback.
