Memphis transformer plant recognized for boosting data center efficiency nationwide
HICO America is marking 25 years of operating its Hyosung HICO transformer plant in Memphis. The facility is the only U.S. site producing 765-kilovolt transformers, which are intended to support rising electricity demand from data centers.
HICO America celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Memphis transformer plant, where the company manufactures power transformers, shunt reactors and gas-insulated switchgear. The facility is currently the only U.S. site dedicated to producing 765-kilovolt transformers, equipment that can help deliver power to data centers as electricity demand rises.
The U.S. Department of Energy marked the anniversary with a tour of the plant. Katie Jereza, assistant secretary of the department’s Office of Electricity, said data center growth is increasing demand for power components and thanked Memphis plant workers for supporting the facility’s expansion.
