Mayor Melton expressed significant concerns regarding Roanoke's existing infrastructure, particularly its electricity and water supply. Discussions with Alabama Power indicated the city might lack the necessary power load for a hyper-scale data center, and the current water supply from Crystal Lake could also be insufficient. The city council is scheduled to meet on August 17 and anticipates having a moratorium ordinance ready by September, which would likely halt the proposed project in the near term.
