Olyphant passes six-month pause on data center development
The Olyphant Borough Council in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, voted to enact a six-month moratorium on data center development. This decision postponed a vote on a zoning amendment that would have restricted data centers to specific industrial areas, leaving the borough temporarily without existing data center limitations.
At its meeting on Tuesday, the Olyphant Borough Council in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, voted 4-3 to implement a six-month moratorium on data center development. This decision superseded a planned vote on a zoning amendment that would have limited data centers to approximately 1,000 acres of industrial-zoned land near the Triboro Industrial Park.
Borough Council President Jimmy Baldan, who voted against the moratorium, expressed concerns that the six-month pause would leave the borough without any existing data center limitations, potentially making it vulnerable during the interim period.
