The San Antonio City Council approved new restrictions on data center development, despite opposition from District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte. Whyte argued the ordinance goes beyond what is necessary and fails to give businesses clear standards, while supporting protections for neighborhoods, schools and drinking water.

The San Antonio City Council approved an ordinance establishing new restrictions for data centers. District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte opposed the final measure, saying it did not provide businesses with a clear and predictable standard for development.

Before the vote, Whyte proposed aligning the ordinance with the San Antonio Zoning Commission’s recommendation, which he said would better balance neighborhood protections with business certainty. The amendment failed, and Whyte voted against the final ordinance while stating that San Antonio should remain open to companies willing to meet the city’s standards.
