The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners has initiated steps towards a one-year moratorium on data center development within its unincorporated boundaries. At a recent meeting, commissioners instructed County Attorney Denise May to draft an ordinance to this effect. This move comes in the wake of an announcement by Miami-based NextNRG, which secured a long-term lease option on 1,200 acres in Nassau County, near Jacksonville International Airport. NextNRG's plans include a 200-megawatt smart microgrid, with 400 acres earmarked for hyperscale data center development, citing favorable access to power, water, and fiber internet.
