Sheboygan’s Data Center Moratorium Awaiting Common Council Approval
Sheboygan's City Plan Commission unanimously approved a year-long data center moratorium. The moratorium aims to give city staff time to develop new regulations for data centers. It now awaits final approval from the Sheboygan Common Council.
The Sheboygan City Plan Commission has unanimously approved a year-long moratorium on data center development, moving the measure closer to enactment. The moratorium, which was previously referred back to the Commission by the Council, would temporarily halt the issuance of permits and approvals for data centers with at least 10,000 square feet of floor area.
The City Attorney's Office and the Sheboygan Department of Planning and Development will spearhead efforts during this period to create new regulations. These regulations are intended to protect the city's health, safety, and general welfare. The proposed moratorium will now proceed to the Sheboygan Common Council for final approval.
