Future County Data Center Ordinance Close To Being Public
Manitowoc County is nearing completion of a draft ordinance for data center development, which will soon be made public for community input. This follows an 18-month moratorium on data center development implemented in April after farmers reported being approached about land sales.
Manitowoc County is progressing with an ordinance designed to regulate data center development within its borders. County Executive Tyler Martell announced on WOMT's Be My Guest program that a draft of the ordinance is expected to be ready for the county's Planning and Parks Commission by the end of the month.
Martell stated that once the commission receives the draft, it will be made public to allow the community to review it. Following its release, a series of discussion sessions will be held to gather public input, allowing residents to express their concerns and opinions on the proposed regulations. This initiative comes in the wake of an 18-month moratorium on data center development, which the county enacted in April after farmers in three townships reported being approached by developers interested in purchasing land for data center projects. Despite the ongoing moratorium, Martell noted that there has been continued interest from groups in establishing data centers in the county. The agenda for the upcoming Planning and Parks Commission meeting has not yet been released.
