The Top 25 Water Customers in San Angelo Won't Include the Data Center
The City of San Angelo provided data on its top water customers, with a proposed Skybox data center projected to use 5.475 million gallons annually, placing it outside the current top 25 users. City officials consider the data center's water consumption negligible compared to the city's overall usage, which is currently in a strong supply position.
The City of San Angelo Water Department released data revealing that the top 25 water customers in San Angelo consume approximately 642 million gallons per year, making up about 16% of the city's total 4.1 billion gallons metered in 2025. Goodfellow Air Force Base is the largest customer, using 168 million gallons annually, followed by Shannon Health with 73 million gallons and Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon) at 28.1 million gallons.
A proposed Skybox data center on the city's northeast side is estimated to use about 5.475 million gallons per year when fully operational with six buildings. This usage would place it just outside the city's current top 25 water customers and is considered a "rounding error" by city officials relative to San Angelo's annual water usage of 4.1 to 4.5 billion gallons.
The city's water supply, anchored by Lake O.H. Ivie and supplemented by the Hickory Aquifer, is currently strong, with planners targeting a 36-month supply. Future water projects, such as the Concho River water reclamation project, are also in the pipeline pending Texas Commission on Environmental Quality permitting.
