Judge Issues Restraining Order on Data Center
A Goodhue County judge has temporarily blocked a Google data center project in Pine Island, Minnesota. This action follows a lawsuit by the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, which claims the project did not receive an adequate environmental impact study, despite the Pine Island City Council's earlier approval of a conditional use permit.
A Goodhue County judge has issued a temporary restraining order, halting the development of a Google data center project, known as Project Skyway, in Pine Island, Minnesota. The judicial action stems from a lawsuit filed by the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy against both the City of Pine Island and developer Ryan Companies.
The advocacy group asserts that the project's approval was granted without an adequate environmental impact study, a claim that challenges the Pine Island City Council's decision in January to approve a conditional use permit for the site. This legal challenge is part of a broader trend, with similar lawsuits having been filed in other Minnesota communities, including Lakeville, Hermantown, Monticello, and Faribault, to block data center developments.
