The Logan City Municipal Council unanimously approved a 180-day moratorium on data center construction and development. The Logan City Municipal Council held a brief, nine-minute meeting on Tuesday evening where they unanimously voted to approve a 180-day moratorium on data center development. Ordinance 26-12 states that Logan City will not accept, process, approve, or issue any applications or permits for data center construction or power plants during this period.

City Planner Russ Holley indicated that this moratorium will allow Logan City necessary time to properly research and understand the potential impacts of data centers and determine appropriate locations within the city. This decision comes after Cache County also imposed a 180-day moratorium. Logan City residents Gail Hansen and Josh Molitor spoke in favor of the moratorium during the public hearing. Council Chair Mike Johnson announced a tentatively planned public open house-style meeting for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss data centers with council members and city staff.
