Governor Greg Abbott announced that Core Scientific, Vantage Data Centers, and SB Energy have committed to complying with the statewide standards and guidelines he established for data centers in Texas. Governor Abbott asserted that these guidelines are being universally implemented by data centers across the state, noting that one company chose to halt construction rather than comply.
The Governor reiterated his directives, stating that data centers must protect the electric grid, conserve water, respect neighborhoods, and bear their own costs without burdening Texas families or interfering with their quality of life. He previously established these "commonsense statewide standards" to ensure data center development benefits communities.
The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) are tasked with examining each data center project, auditing information on its impact on the grid, water, and communities, and ensuring full compliance. Governor Abbott emphasized that PUCT and ERCOT cannot make decisions on grid stability with incomplete information, and any data center failing ERCOT's audit process will face denied approval. He noted that since these directives, data centers statewide have either announced full compliance or ended their projects.
