Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said it sent a water-use information letter to a data center development in Brazos County, but officials have not identified the recipient. Reveille AI Compute Center CEO Stephan Fabel said his project at the RELLIS Campus did not receive the letter, leaving the recipient unclear.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office sent 156 letters to data center developments across 32 counties seeking current water-use information that had not been reported to the Texas Water Development Board. Brazos County was included, but the state has not disclosed which development received its letter or provided KBTX with a copy.

The Reveille AI Compute Center under construction at Texas A&M University’s RELLIS Campus is the only new data center project KBTX identified in the county. CEO Stephan Fabel said the project did not receive a letter. The inquiry comes as Texas agencies review data centers’ effects on water and electricity supplies after Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to halt new data center permits during an industry audit.

The pause has not stopped all projects connected to data centers. Construction at RELLIS and at Terafab’s chip-manufacturing project in neighboring Grimes County has continued, with Grimes County Judge Joe Fauth saying Terafab is classified as a chip plant even though it includes a supporting data center.
