Kentuckians Voice Concerns at Frankfort Data Center Session
Kentucky lawmakers held a listening session in Frankfort where residents raised concerns about data center development and alleged secrecy surrounding agreements between local officials and developers. Speakers cited potential impacts on water, noise, land use and infrastructure, while others expressed support for data centers and urged lawmakers to consider future safeguards or a moratorium.
A packed listening session at the Capitol Annex in Frankfort gave Kentucky residents an opportunity to address lawmakers about the potential growth of data centers in the state. The event was organized by state Rep. Adam Moore, and speakers criticized local officials for signing nondisclosure agreements with developers and for denying open-records requests.
Opponents, including Karen Hagen and Dr. Floyd, called for greater transparency and guardrails addressing water use, noise, land use and infrastructure impacts. Max Moran of Mason County discussed a possible moratorium, while Martin Rivers of Fayette County spoke in support of data center projects. The session reflected competing views as Kentucky considers how to regulate potential development.
