Eric Sichau, President and CEO of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, stated the panel would explore how data centers build long-term capacity through workforce development, supplier engagement, and community partnerships, focusing on Google's proposed data center in Botetourt County. The panel included representatives from Google, Appalachian Power, and the Western Virginia Water Authority. Sichau acknowledged that the environmental impact of Google's proposed data center has been a "hot topic." He emphasized that the event was business-focused, designed to allow various stakeholders to share insights into infrastructure and planning. Held at Charter Hall in the Roanoke City Market Building, Data Centers 101 was described as an initial opportunity for regional businesses across Virginia's Blue Ridge to engage with and benefit from the evolving data center industry.
