Construction crews have started blasting at the Greenpoint Data Center site near Harlem in Columbia County, marking a new phase of development. The blasting is expected to occur every other weekday through Dec. 30 and may continue for about two months.

Residents interviewed by WJBF reporter Makayla Davis described mixed reactions. Sean Skadan said the project has caused little traffic or cleanliness trouble and that project representatives told him the facility would use a closed-loop water system and would not drill for water. Melvin Ransom remained concerned about the site's proximity to a middle school and residential neighborhoods, as well as the amount of water typically needed to cool a data center.
