All Project Taurus data center appeals meet requirements
Five appeals challenging the Project Taurus AI data center in Colorado Springs, proposed by Raeden, have met the requirements to advance. The appeals contest the city planning staff's approval of the development plan, citing concerns over electricity, water use, environmental impacts, noise, and drought restrictions. The appeals will now proceed to the city's Planning Commission, with a likely further appeal to the City Council.
All five appeals filed against the Project Taurus AI data center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, have successfully met the minimum requirements to advance through the review process. Colorado Springs officials announced Tuesday that these appeals challenge the city planning staff's initial approval of the development plan for a data center from California-based technology company, Raeden.
The proposed data center is slated for a commercial corridor along Garden of the Gods Road. Two of the appeals were filed by large groups, including residents from the Chelsea Glen neighborhood and the nonprofit Integrity Matters, as well as a representative from No Data Center in COS, a group formed in response to the Project Taurus plans. These broader appeals highlight concerns regarding the project's potential impact on electricity, water usage, and environmental factors, in addition to questioning the project's size suitability for the business park.
Three additional appeals were submitted by individual city residents, focusing specifically on objections related to noise, low-frequency vibrations, and the project's approval amid Colorado's existing drought restrictions. City spokesperson Max D’Onofrio noted that each appeal would be considered separately unless consolidated by the appellants.
All appeals will now be heard by the city's Planning Commission, with a hearing date expected in July. Regardless of the Planning Commission's ruling, the decision is anticipated to be appealed further to the Colorado Springs City Council for a final determination.
