Vivek would like to confirm that a farm should in fact consume more water than a data center.
News Clip2:53No Desert Data Center Coalition·Marana, Pima County, AZ·12/27/2025
The video discusses a proposed data center project in Marana, Arizona that is facing opposition from the local No Desert Data Center Coalition. The data center developer, Beale Infrastructure, claims the data center will use less water than a farm, but the coalition argues this is misleading since the energy used by the data center will increase overall water usage through the fracking and steam generation processes. The Marana Town Council is set to vote on rezoning for the project without further public hearings, which the coalition is urging residents to oppose.

Gov: Marana Town Council, Marana Planning Commission
At the 12/10/25 Marana planning commission meeting on rezoning land for data centers, Beale Infrastructure and their reps were very proud of themselves for planning a data center that will consume less water than [checks notes]... a farm.
Marana Town Council currently plans to vote on the rezoning at their 1/6/26 meeting without any town halls or further public hearings. Marana residents: please contact your town council members and tell them no to this project!
Additionally, their claim is misleading about OVERALL water use, because our electric companies rely on fracked gas for their mix. More demand for fracked gas energy means more water used in the fracking, and more water used to generate steam for the fracked gas plants. Energy and water can't be separated.
