Country music star Brad Paisley and the Nashville Zoo are actively campaigning against a proposed data center development located near the zoo. Paisley, in a social media video, described the project as an "enormous monstrosity" and a "nightmare scenario," citing concerns about its visual impact, water, and electricity demands, and potential negative ramifications for the zoo and Nashville's appeal.
He joined the Nashville Zoo in urging fans to sign a petition to halt the construction, which has garnered nearly 313,000 signatures. Zoo CEO Rick Schwartz emphasized the threat to the zoo's 3,000 animals, specifically mentioning potential light, noise, and pollution impacts from the facility. The zoo's statement highlighted that "AI data centers are being built at an alarming pace, posing possible risks to diverse and vulnerable communities."
DC Blox, the company behind the proposed data center, responded to the concerns. They stated plans to minimize water usage through "closed-loop or waterless cooling designs," test and manage noise levels, and shield light fixtures. The company also indicated ongoing discussions with local leaders regarding the project.
