Lowell Township is drafting a data center ordinance following a proposal for a Microsoft data center near I-96. Over 100 residents attended a contentious public meeting to provide input, which the advisory committee is considering as they develop the rules.
Lowell Township is in the process of developing a data center ordinance, a development spurred by a proposal for a Microsoft data center to be located near I-96 and Alden Nash Avenue. A recent meeting at Lowell High School drew more than 100 people, many of whom expressed their views on the potential project and its associated regulations. The meeting was described as contentious at times.
The chairperson of the advisory committee acknowledged and appreciated the public's input, stating that it would be used as they work to draft the necessary rules for the ordinance. The draft ordinance will eventually be presented to the township planning commission for their review and will be followed by public hearings to ensure comprehensive community awareness and feedback. The advisory committee is scheduled to reconvene next Tuesday night.
