Public hearing set for Southport data center moratorium

Southport, North Carolina leaders are advancing a proposed 15-month moratorium on data center development within the town. The Board of Aldermen unanimously voted during their August 13th meeting to schedule a public hearing for September 15th to consider the measure.
This initiative stems from a July request by the town's Planning Board, which sought a temporary halt on future data center approvals, despite there being no active proposals currently in the area. Should the moratorium be enacted, city staff would then proceed with developing new land use standards specifically tailored for future data center projects.
