One Nuclear plans gas-fired data center near Musk’s Starbase

Energy developer ONE Nuclear has announced plans for Project Cayman, a substantial 2.88-gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant, battery storage system, and data center campus in Louisiana. The project site is located near the RiverPlex MegaPark in Iberville Parish, situated between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, approximately 90 miles northeast of SpaceX's Starbase Louisiana project.
Richard Taylor, CEO of ONE Nuclear, stated that Project Cayman is designed to support regional economic development by supplying reliable on-demand electricity to the local grid, complemented by a 700-megawatt battery storage system. The company noted its commitment to meeting the rapidly growing energy demands stemming from other recently announced developments, including the SpaceX Starbase project and Hyundai's new steel mill.
ONE Nuclear plans to initiate community outreach efforts from September through December 2026, which will involve public information meetings with local parishes, governmental agencies, and other interested parties. While details on the data center's specific development timeline and potential partners were not disclosed, ONE Nuclear indicated an agreement with Rolls-Royce to procure natural gas turbines for initial power generation. The company intends to transition the facility to nuclear power using Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology once it becomes commercially available.
