Proposed data center a step closer in Colorado Springs
A proposed data center project, "Project Taurus," in Colorado Springs was approved by the City Planning Department, but local residents are unhappy due to noise concerns. A citizen group is now raising funds to appeal the approval, highlighting ongoing community opposition.
A new data center project, identified as "Project Taurus", is moving forward in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after receiving approval for its modified application from the City Planning Department. This development is near Garden of the Gods Road, in close proximity to the Chelsea Glen neighborhood, where residents are voicing strong opposition.
Community members are particularly concerned about noise pollution that would be generated by the data center's cooling systems and other functions. Despite the planning department's approval, residents feel their concerns were not adequately considered. A citizen group is actively raising money and plans to file an appeal against the approval.
The CEO of Raeden, the company developing and operating the data center, acknowledges community concerns but asserts that noise pollution will not be an issue. He stated that the company is implementing community feedback where possible, including modifying the data center application to move generators further from the neighborhood, an adjustment he claims increases construction costs.
