Amazon has reached a significant milestone at its New Carlisle, Indiana data center campus with the opening of its administration building, allowing local media inside for the first time. The company is undertaking a nearly $11 billion investment across 800 acres.

The administration building will serve as the hub for Amazon's workforce development initiatives. These programs recruit and train individuals, including local high school and college students, for technical careers within the data center, focusing on machine learning and data center operations.

Amazon recently graduated its inaugural work-based learning program with 58 local participants, many of whom had no prior tech background. Christian Loomis, one of the graduates, highlighted the opportunity for young people to enter skilled trades. Sergio Loureiro, VP of Global data center operations at Amazon Web Services, emphasized the company's commitment to creating real careers for community members.

The campus has already hired approximately 80% of its non-construction workforce from the surrounding community, and construction on other data center buildings is ongoing. This initiative is part of Amazon's broader Future Ready 2030 program, aiming to prepare 50 million people for future jobs.
