Amazon is expanding its footprint in Northwest Louisiana with an additional $6 billion investment, bringing its total commitment to $18 billion across three data center campuses in Shreveport. The newest facility will be located at Resilient Technology Park in West Shreveport. This substantial investment is projected to create 750 permanent full-time jobs, paying over $90,000 annually, and support an additional 2,250 construction jobs through companies like Stack Infrastructure. Officials anticipate astronomical returns on investment, including massive increases in tax dollars for Caddo and Bossier Parishes.
Local leaders and Amazon are actively addressing public concerns regarding the project's impact on existing water and power infrastructure. Amazon has committed to funding the necessary upgrades, including an investment of up to $400 million in public water infrastructure, assuring residents that these costs will not be passed on to utility ratepayers. The company also states that its latest facility will utilize outside air cooling for 87% of the year, minimizing water consumption, and has pledged to develop "water positive programs" to return more water to the local watershed.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arseno expressed confidence in the city's capacity, stating that its water production capability of 78 million gallons per day far exceeds the maximum flow rate of 55 million gallons per day, even on the hottest days. He affirmed the city's delight in providing water for the data center, expecting only positive impacts. The first building of the new campus is slated for completion by mid-next year, with Amazon also partnering with local schools to prepare the workforce. A records request has been submitted to the city of Shreveport to review the detailed agreement.
