Report: Lyon Co. commission drafting moratorium on data centers for consideration next week
Lyon County, Kansas commissioners are drafting a six-month moratorium on data center and solar farm permit applications. This proposal follows a 10-day stopgap measure and aims to allow time for reviewing and revising county zoning regulations. The moratorium is scheduled for consideration next week.
Lyon County, Kansas, commissioners are moving forward with a plan to implement a six-month moratorium on permit requests for data centers and solar farms. During a recent meeting, Commissioner Chris Bartel initially proposed a 10-day "stopgap" on such applications, which is now in effect until August 1.
Following this, the commissioners instructed Lyon County Legal Counsel Molly Priest to develop a longer, six-month moratorium. This proposed moratorium will be presented for approval at their next regular meeting on Thursday morning. If enacted, the six-month period will be dedicated to a comprehensive review and revision of the county's existing zoning regulations concerning both data center and solar farm developments.
