Mifflin County residents sign anti-data center petition, voice opinions at local planning meeting

Dozens of people gathered at Thursday's Mifflin County Planning Commission meeting to speak out against a potential data center project in Granville Township. This comes after a petition against data center development gathered more than 1,700 signatures online. "I got a great granddaughter now. I want her to be able to live in Mifflin County without hearing that reverberating hum," Linda Hoke, a Granville resident, said at the meeting. Corrie Hockenberry and Nathan Fisher, who helped organize the petition, said the facility would be located at a 165-acre property along Loop Road. Hockenberry said she worries about the impact a data center would have on wild animals and the local environment. "We’re going to hear this for miles around, and what’s sad is we have bald eagles nesting less than a half mile away, we have endangered species in the Juniata River," she said.
