Virginia county leaders dismiss petition opposing Berry Hill Mega Park data center

A multibillion-dollar data center project by Stack Infrastructure is slated to proceed at the Berry Hill Mega Park in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The development is a partnership between Pittsylvania County and the City of Danville, managed through the Regional Industrial Facilities Authority (RIFR).
Despite a petition on Change.org garnering over 700 signatures calling for the project's halt, county leaders affirm the development will not be deterred. Vic Ingram, Chairman of RIFR, stated that the petition would not alter the project's trajectory.
Ingram highlighted the significant economic benefits, projecting billions in investment and thousands of both construction and permanent jobs. He acknowledged opposition but maintained that the majority supports the project, viewing it as crucial for future growth. Addressing infrastructure concerns, Ingram noted the facility would employ a closed-loop cooling system and draw power from AEP, ensuring no impact on local utility bills. The first phase of the Stack data center is expected to be operational by mid-2027, with plans for additional buildings on the campus.
