Kevin O'Leary, an investor in the proposed 40,000-acre Stratos data center campus in Box Elder County, Utah, publicly accused two local opposition groups of being funded by the Chinese government. O'Leary made the accusation during an appearance on Fox News, specifically targeting Alliance for a Better Utah and Elevate Strategies.
He questioned why any entity would want to hinder the development of the U.S. electrical grid and AI compute capacity, concluding that China is the only adversary that would desire such an outcome. In response, a representative from Alliance for a Better Utah vehemently denied the allegations, stating that their organization is funded by grassroots donors and people from around Utah who support their mission.
O'Leary further stated his intent to employ forensic accountants to investigate the funding sources of the opposition to the data center project in Utah. He emphasized the necessity of the data center to maintain the country's technological edge.
