Cleanup operations at the former Tonawanda Coke property, now known as the Riverview Innovation & Technology Campus, are nearing completion. The extensive environmental remediation has been underway for six years, involving efforts by developer John Yensan, president and CEO of Ontario Specialty Contracting Inc. Yensan, whose company owns the 86.5-acre site through Riverview Innovation & Technology Campus Inc., described it as the worst contaminated property he has ever encountered.
The project, which has faced a $20 million budget overrun and a two-year delay, is anticipated to be ready for redevelopment by next fall. This comes after the state approved a final remedial action work plan. The cleared site is being eyed for future development, including the potential construction of a $2 billion data center.
