The New Albany City development and annexation committee unanimously voted to advance a proposed one-year temporary moratorium ordinance on new data center applications. The City of New Albany is moving forward with efforts to pause the development of new data centers. The city’s development and annexation committee recently voted unanimously to advance a temporary moratorium ordinance. If adopted, the ordinance would halt new data center applications for up to one year.

During this proposed pause, city officials plan to review existing development rules and gather feedback from residents concerning potential impacts on environmental resources, noise, and other community considerations. New Albany City Council member Chris FitzGerald emphasized the importance of mitigating public concerns and minimizing disruption to residents' lives.

An upcoming meeting of the city’s Planning Commission is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at New Albany City Hall, where the proposal will be reviewed. Residents will have an opportunity to share their perspectives on data center development and the proposed moratorium. The final decision on whether to implement the one-year data center pause will rest with the New Albany City Council.
