The City of Savannah launched a resident survey to gather input on large-scale data center development, including concerns about water capacity, energy use, neighborhood proximity and tax benefits. The survey follows the City Council's approval of a moratorium on large data centers through January while officials study impacts and prepare a draft ordinance.

The City of Savannah is asking residents to rank their priorities for potential data center development, including water and energy capacity, distance from neighborhoods, local tax benefits and overall support for data centers in the city. Mayor Van Johnson said the process is intended to determine what infrastructure can accommodate and how development could affect Savannah’s neighborhoods, public safety, environmental health and quality of life.

The survey is open through Nov. 20, following the Savannah City Council’s approval of a moratorium on large-scale data centers through January. A draft ordinance is expected in November, with any proposed changes to be reviewed through public hearings before the Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission and Savannah City Council.
