Data centers, Lake Glenwood, new office building on Pitt commissioners' agenda
Pitt County commissioners are scheduled to review current data center regulations and the process for implementing a construction moratorium after residents and Commissioner Melvin McLawhorn raised concerns. The board will also receive updates on the county’s unified development ordinance and other local projects.
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to review ordinances governing data centers and the steps required to establish a moratorium on new construction. Commissioner Melvin McLawhorn proposed a moratorium in August after public comments and constituent calls raised concerns; neighboring Edgecombe and Wilson counties have already enacted moratoriums, according to county staff.
The meeting agenda also includes an update on the county’s first Unified Development Ordinance, which would consolidate zoning, subdivision, stormwater, floodplain and other land-use regulations. Commissioners are expected to consider selecting Inspire Placemaking Collective as the consultant for the project, while separately addressing repairs or possible decommissioning of the high-hazard Lake Glenwood dam and financing for a new county administrative building.
