Westlake data center plan sparks backlash from Keller neighbors

The City of Westlake, Texas, announced plans for a new data center, sparking significant backlash from neighboring residents in Keller, particularly those living in the Marshall Ridge development. Resident Kevin Myers expressed shock and disappointment after learning via a Facebook post that the data center would be constructed just hundreds of feet from his property, despite Westlake's claim that the closest Westlake resident would be nearly a mile away.
The situation has led to finger-pointing between Westlake and Keller officials. Westlake stated that the project was discussed openly over a year ago, with a December 2024 courtesy meeting held with Keller leadership where the project was presented as informational. Westlake claims no opposition was raised by Keller officials at that time. However, the former mayor of Keller stated on Facebook that the concept was presented as a mere possibility, and they understood a developer had only recently approached Hillwood. Keller residents are not opposed to a data center in Westlake but are advocating for it to be moved further away from residential property lines, similar to the distance provided for Westlake residents.
