Hazle Twp. data center ordinance meeting rescheduled to Thursday
The Hazle Township Planning Commission rescheduled a public meeting to discuss a proposed ordinance regulating data centers and related infrastructure. The draft includes special-exception zoning, setbacks from residential and environmental resources, closed-loop cooling requirements, and studies covering noise, traffic, stormwater and other impacts.
The Hazle Township Planning Commission moved its special meeting on proposed data center zoning amendments to Thursday at Hazle Township Commons. The meeting will include public comment and discussion of possible recommendations to the Hazle Township Board of Supervisors, with additional review or another meeting possible.
The draft ordinance would allow data centers by special exception in the I-1 Industrial District, subject to zoning hearing board approval. It proposes a 1,250-foot buffer from residentially zoned property, restrictions near streams, wetlands and other regulated resources, closed-loop cooling unless a non-water-based system is used, and requirements for environmental, noise, traffic, stormwater, emergency preparedness and decommissioning studies.
