The pro-data-center super PAC Building the Future plans to spend more than $1.5 million supporting Kansas Republican gubernatorial candidate Ty Masterson. The spending comes as Kansas debates data center tax incentives, electricity and water protections, and calls for a statewide development moratorium.

Building the Future, an offshoot of the pro-AI super PAC Leading the Future, is investing more than $1.5 million to support Kansas state Sen. Ty Masterson’s campaign for governor. The group backs candidates who support data center growth and policies intended to protect water resources, limit electricity rate increases and promote artificial intelligence investment.

The spending comes amid growing opposition to data center development in Kansas and nationally. Masterson has opposed data center moratoriums and defended a 2025 law providing sales tax exemptions for data center investments, while Democratic candidate Katie Holscher has called for a statewide moratorium and criticized Masterson as too closely aligned with the industry.
